The New Jeep Compass Surpasses All Expectations

2018 Jeep Compass

The 2018 Jeep Compass is built on the same design as the Renegade was built on. The difference is that the Jeep Compass has been stretched out to give the owner more legroom and cargo space. The Compass falls between the Renegade and the Cherokee in the Jeep lineup. It is larger than your typical subcompact but is much easier to park than a typical crossover. The roof height is lower than that of the Renegade but the headroom is still great.

There are a variety of new features in the 2018 Compass. Mostly the new features are considered cosmetic but they give a desirable appeal to the new Compass. The Limited trim offers a lot of capabilities as standard while being optional for the other trims. Some of the features include Blind Spot and Cross Path Detection all the way to illuminated cup holders in the front of the vehicle. All of the offered features bring a new luxury and comfort level to your vehicle. The greatest thing about the new version of the Jeep Compass is that it keeps with the Jeep styling. Jeep offers the Trailhawk trim which is off-road ready and just what you would expect from a Jeep. The typical cost of the new 2018 Jeep Compass is between $22,090 and $29,790.

The engine is a 4-cylinder, 2.4-liter motor with 180 horsepower and offering 175 lb-ft of torque. It includes a stop-and-start feature that will help you to save on gas when you are idling. The transmission is a 6-speed manual that comes standard in the lower trims with a 6-speed automatic transmission alternative for the front-wheel-drive options. The all-wheel-drive versions come with a 9-speed automatic transmission and this makes the Compass the only crossover in its segment that comes with this many options.

The front-wheel-drive manual setup gets 23 miles to the gallon in the city and 32 miles per gallon on the highway. The front-wheel-drive automatic gives you 22 miles per gallon in the city and 31 miles per gallon on the highway. The all-wheel-drive versions give you 22 miles per gallon in the city and 30 miles per gallon on the highway.

Driving the Jeep Compass

The output of the engine is considered good at 180 horsepower and it makes for a very pleasant and quiet ride. The Compass also has a new higher driving position. These are considered great improvements over the old Compass.

The Compass has an 8.5-inch ground clearance and a 30.3-degree approach angle. It has a 24.4-degrees breakover angle and a 33.6-degree departure angle. This helps to assure that the vehicle can be used in the wild as well as on the street.
